Borenius Welcomes Leading Expert on EU Court Proceedings Sami Hartikainen
We are very pleased to announce that Sami Hartikainen will join our EU and Competition practice on 16 September. Sami has previously served as a Legal Counsellor at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland where he gained extensive experience in EU court proceedings for almost a decade.
Sami has independently argued dozens of cases before the European Commission and the European Court of Justice on behalf of Finland, including a vast variety of internal market cases and other matters involving EU legislation. As such, Sami has a unique skill set that is highly sought after in Finland as the higher courts in Finland are increasingly turning to the European Court of Justice for preliminary rulings.
During his career, Sami has also gained a great amount of expertise in EU state aid law, especially as a Senior Adviser in the Competition Policy Unit at the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment of Finland. At Borenius, Sami will focus on the most demanding EU-related cases and advise our clients especially on matters concerning state aid and internal markets.
”I am delighted to have Finland’s foremost expert on state aid and EU court proceedings join us. His in-depth knowledge of these processes will be a great asset that will ensure our clients receive the best advice on EU-related matters,” says Ilkka Aalto-Setälä, the Head of our EU and Competition practice.
