Borenius’ Rotation Programme in London – International Steps for the Future
Our new office rotation programme sends our lawyers to the UK for short stints at our London representative office. Offering our lawyers the chance to experience working abroad is a good way to create and further deepen our global connections and meet their peer level associates in law firms based in London.
It also functions as a great way for our young lawyers to gain new experiences in the early stages of their career of living and working abroad and seeing how the big firms operate in the most important financial centre in Europe. Our office is located in a very nice “Nordic community”, so our lawyers are also able to see a bit how certain other leading Nordic law firms operate. The programme has now been up and running for nearly four months, and the positive feedback we have received tells us that this is a warmly welcomed step in the world of lawyers.
Why London?
The basic idea of this rotation programme is to help our lawyers gain international working experience and to find new contacts for global markets. This is an important step as most of our business involves international clients or elements, and London serves as the key feeder market for us outside of Helsinki. Building new networks benefits both the firm and our individual lawyers in terms of future career development.
Highly motivated applicants and the selection process
This year, we have selected seven lawyers to complete the rotation programme after an intense application process. The motivation to learn and further develop one’s skills was and will be the key element we take into consideration when choosing the right candidates to participate in this programme. The chosen ones have also gone through our “Young Borenius Ambassador” training module.
The seven lawyers who were selected for this year’s programme have been distributed over the four different quarters. Each lawyer gets to work for a period of altogether five to six weeks at one-to-two-week intervals. This arrangement allows us to offer this great option to as many lawyers as we possibly can each year.
Connections, business life, and culture
An average working day in London involves connecting with international colleagues and clients. Our participants get to attend business lunches and local seminars where they can build their global network of business acquaintances. This will help our lawyers later in their career and offers a new sense of freedom after a long period of restrictions and working from home. All lawyers who have participated in our programme say that opting for London was one of the best career decisions they have made.
