Borenius Celebrates a Decade in New York
This year is full of celebration. In addition to our 111th anniversary, we are also excited to have reached another milestone: a full decade in bustling New York. Throughout its history, our representative office in New York has served as a convenient gateway for both Finnish and American corporate clients looking to invest and do business in each other’s territories.
Building upon our success in New York, we decided to open our second representative office in another major financial centre, i.e. London, in 2020. Due to the restrictions brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, our London representative office was only formally opened in the beginning of 2022.
Our dual presence in two of the leading global financial centres keeps us closer to both the US and the UK legal markets, enabling us to engage in more intensive cooperation with many of the world’s leading law firms, banks, and clients. Our US and UK clients also benefit from our unique, in-depth expertise and networks in the Nordics.

The US has always been an attractive option for Finnish companies looking to invest abroad, but we are seeing an unprecedented uptick in interest due to the current uncertainty in the European and Asian markets. Our extensive networks and history in the city, combined with our relationships with advisors across the US give us an edge to be relevant wherever in the US our Finnish clients need us,” notes Partner Juha Koponen, the Head of our London and New York representative offices.
In addition to functioning as a nexus for global business opportunities, our New York office hosts various on-site events, seminars, and webinars on important current topics that are intended for our clients and networks. We also offer a secondment programme at our New York office, and this summer marked the first time in a long while that we could extend this opportunity to one Associate Trainee as well. Ensuring that our younger talents get a first-row seat to how business is done in New York’s legal community and European business circles is very important to us as a firm.
