Borenius successfully represented executives of Agnico Eagle Finland Ltd against work safety offence charges

We advised Europe’s largest gold mine Agnico Eagle Finland on a matter relating to a work accident and civil claims where one employee of a subcontractor was accidentally killed in an excavator accident at the Kittilä mine.

Certain employees and executives of our client company were charged with work safety offences and aggravated involuntary manslaughter. Borenius successfully represented three executives at the trial as they were all acquitted from all charges.

The case concerned the assessment of employer work safety obligations in the complex technical environment of a global corporation as well as employees’ duty to comply with the employer’s safety policies.
